Margin is a podcast note-taking app operated by Selinay Filiz Parlak. This page covers the app and margin.fm. For privacy questions or deletion requests, email parlakselinay@gmail.com.
Private recordings and transcripts
Audio you record and your private notes and transcripts are stored on your device. Margin uses the microphone when you record and Apple’s on-device speech recognition to transcribe. The app requires on-device recognition; it does not fall back to sending recordings to a cloud transcription service. Recognition availability depends on your device and language.
Private recordings are not uploaded to Margin’s club backend. Device backups may include app data according to your Apple backup settings.
Episode links and Spotify
When you import a Spotify episode link, Margin requests public episode metadata from Spotify, including the title and artwork. That request sends the episode link and ordinary network information to Spotify. A selected episode link can pass from the Share extension to the app through shared storage on your device.
If you choose optional Spotify sign-in, Spotify authorizes access through OAuth. Margin uses authorization tokens and playback context to identify the episode and control playback where access is available. Margin does not ask for your Spotify password. You can disconnect Spotify in Margin settings.
Apple sign-in and clubs
Clubs require Sign in with Apple. Margin stores an Apple account identifier, your display name and session credentials to manage your account. Its Convex backend stores club names, membership, invite codes, episode information, shared text notes and listening progress to provide club features.
Text you choose to share, your display name and club playback progress are visible to fellow club members. Shared text is stored on the backend; private audio stays on your device.
Website email signup and support
If you join the early-access list, your email address and a Margin waitlist label are sent to Loops to manage launch updates. A signup confirmation is shown only after Loops confirms the request. You can unsubscribe using the link in an email or contact us to request removal.
If you email support, we receive your address and the information you include to respond to your request. Please do not include passwords or access tokens.
Service providers
Margin uses Convex for club data, Loops for website email signups, and Vercel to host this website. Apple and Spotify also process information when you use their services. Hosting and network providers may process technical request information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect their services. Margin does not sell your personal data.
Retention and deletion
Private notes remain on your device until you delete them. Deleting your Margin account in the app removes your account, sessions, memberships, shared notes and playback records from the active backend; it does not delete private notes on your device. Clubs with remaining members can continue after you leave.
You can request removal from the launch list or help deleting account data by emailing us. Data held in device backups or provider operational records is subject to those services’ retention and deletion processes.

- Use private notes without creating a Margin account.
- Import episode links without Spotify OAuth.
- Choose which text to share with a club.
- Delete notes or use Delete Account in Margin settings.
- Revoke microphone or speech recognition access in iOS Settings.
- Remove Margin’s connection in your Apple or Spotify account settings.
- Contact us about access, correction or deletion of your information.
