Margin is an iOS app for capturing voice notes while listening to podcasts and, optionally, sharing listening progress with groups. This page describes what data Margin uses, how, and the choices you have.

Information Margin uses

How information is used

Margin uses this information to save voice notes to the episode moment where they were captured, let you search and revisit notes, resume or jump Spotify playback, sync group listening progress, and keep your Margin account and group access working.

Microphone and speech recognition

Margin uses microphone access while you record a voice note. Margin uses speech recognition to transcribe voice notes. Do not record information you do not want saved as a note or transcript.

Spotify

Margin connects to Spotify using OAuth. Spotify playback data is used to identify the current podcast episode and playback position. Margin does not ask for a Spotify password.

Data sharing

Margin does not sell personal data. Group notes and group playback progress are shared with members of the group you join or create. Spotify and Apple process data according to their own services when you use Spotify OAuth, Spotify playback, Sign in with Apple, or Apple speech recognition.

Data storage

Private notes may be stored on your device. Group-related data may be stored in Margin's backend so group members can sync shared progress and notes.
